Waterfront event highlights key issues affecting businesses around the Solent...

Businesses from across the region congregated at Southampton Football Club stadium on Friday 27th April to discuss the way forward in helping marine businesses gain greater access to waterfront facilities in the Solent region. Martin Hendry of Adams Hendry Consultants presented the study they are undertaking to support development of the strategy.

Seawork - Marine South East supports conference programme...

As part of its ongoing support for the SeaWork event, Marine south East will this year be sponsoring one of the talks from the 3 day conference programme. The programme covers subjects as diverse as an RNLI talk on Saving Fishermen’s Lives and A guide to recruitment, education and training for the marine industry, with speakers from the Marine, Engineering and Manufacturing Skills Partnership and the Marine Cove.

Training to help with changes to Recreational Craft Directive...

The recently (introduced Jan 2006) amendment to the Recreational Craft Directive has placed specific requirements on Boat builders and Engine Manufacturers to limit Noise emissions. The requirement applies to recreational craft with inboard or stern drive engines without integral exhaust, personal watercraft and outboard engines and stern drive engines with integral exhaust.

Transport Minister visits Dover Marine Festival...

People from across East Kent visited Dover’s cruise terminal for a two day maritime careers festival last month. One of the main attractions on display was the state of the art troop carrier Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Mounts Bay.

The Marine Regional Resource Centre (RRC), which was set up in January, has just completed its first quarter. It has achieved excellent results well above its original targets. ‘I am immensely pleased and proud of this achievement’ commented Kenneth Cast, the RRC Project Manager. ‘This initial success is down to the employers understanding the importance of up-skilling their staff, taking onboard the changes in modern manufacturing techniques and processes and fully embracing this opportunity via the RRC to enhance this productivity and competitiveness’.
