Survey with the YDSA 2nd -3rd March 2015, Marwell Hampshire

This two-day course provides a comprehensive introduction to marine surveying including types of survey, insurance and legal considerations, regulatory and legislative issues, industry codes and schemes, report compilation / procedures and above all what it is expected of a professional, competent surveyor.

The course also covers the work of the YDSA and what is required to qualify for membership. Topical industry issues and latest developments will also be dealt with.

The lead tutor will be supported by specialists in individual subjects - all respected industry professionals with many years' experience.

Sample topics that will be covered:

* What is expected of a surveyor?
* Applying for membership (what the YDSA looks for)
* The legal aspects of surveying
* The importance of good professional indemnity insurance
* Surveying from the broker's perspective
* Introduction to the coding process
* Types of survey
* Introduction to Tonnage and the Registration process
* Report writing
* Formatting a report
* Summary of YDSA surveying requirements and philosophy

On completion of the course delegates receive a course folder with accompanying course notes and a Certificate.
The second day of the course is dedicated to Report Writing - techniques, detail, terminology, do's and don'ts, etc. This day is particularly valuable to those wanting to upgrade their membership. It is an interactive day led by Fellow Member Tony Tucker.
