We are delighted to announce that two figures closely associated with Marine South East, Iain Shepherd and Professor Gwyn Griffiths, have been awarded MBE's for their services to the marine sector in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Iain Shepherd has been awarded the MBE for his services to the marine sector and economy in Chichester, West Sussex.

Iain was instrumental in the formation of Marine South East and has been a long-term chairman of the organisation and closely involved with its development and activities over many years. He currently manages the marine and defence consultancy MARCOM Defence, offering a wide range of services and equipment in the Naval and Commercial marine sectors.

Iain is extremely active in various Maritime Industry Forums as well as being an EU Ambassador of the Sea and member of NOC Advisory Council. Within Sussex Iain has been a long-term member of the Chichester Chamber of Commerce as well as Director of the Coast to Capital LEP and recent Chairman of the Coastal West Sussex Partnership.

Professor Gwyn Griffiths has received a MBE for his services to marine science. Professor Griffiths retired from NERC in 2012 after a distinguished 36-year career as an ocean engineer with the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Southampton. He remains an active world-leading authority in the field of ocean technology.

Professor Griffiths is an expert in the use of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for marine science; he is the founder of Autonomous Analytics and works as an Associate Partner with Marine South East on a number of projects.
