Maritime and Defence Dual-Use Conference 2017, 4th April 2017

Marine South East is hosting a conference, with funding from the European Commission, targeting maritime dual-use opportunities in autonomous systems and satellite applications. The conference will take place on 4th April 2017, as part of the Ocean Business event programme in National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Southampton. Registration is free, and includes an evening reception for networking.

There is increasing convergence between defence and commercial applications in areas such as surveillance, asset tracking and cyber-security. This presents 'dual-use' opportunities for business. Not only can convergence share costs across different applications, but also it offers broader market access for innovative products and services.

Recognising these trends, non-profit Marine South East is hosting a conference targeting maritime dual-use opportunities in autonomous systems and satellite applications. Both of these themes are on a growth curve for investment, and are attracting widespread interest across public and private sectors. The goal of the conference is to highlight innovation priorities and initiate relationships across defence and commercial, involving major primes and SMEs.

The conference will take place on 4th April 2017, as part of the Ocean Business http://www.oceanbusiness.com event programme in National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Southampton. Registration is free, and includes an evening reception for networking.

The following day, 5th April, a B2B matchmaking event is being hosted also in NOC. This is being hosted by the Enterprise Europe Network in partnership with Marine South East. This will enable firms to hold more detailed discussions on a one-to-one basis. Registration is free at the following link:

This workshop and B2B event are taking place under the European Network of Defence Related regions which is supporting a programme to promote dual-use innovation.

The conference, on 4th April 2017, will focus on two technology themes that are currently enjoying strong investment in both civil and military applications, with large numbers of SMEs in the value chain, but where dual-use priorities are not systematically identified.

The themes are:

* Maritime information services, including satellite applications, maritime Internet of Things, cyber security and dual-use data analytics and web services
* Sensor platforms and autonomy, including marine autonomous systems, energy storage for endurance, sensors and smart sensor networks

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from funding bodies and industry partners looking to fully exploit the entrepreneurial opportunities and synergies between dual-use products, services and technologies that can drive innovation in both the civil and defence marine and maritime sectors.
