Could Degree Apprenships assist your business growth?

Organisations can take advantage of significant government funding towards the cost of a degree apprenticeship enabling the development of new recruits and existing employees by offering a practical work-based degree delivered on a day-release basis.

The University of Portsmouth has developed a Degree Apprenticeship programme in response to the Government's Apprenticeships initiative.

For Non-Levy paying organisations with fewer than 50 employees, the Government pays 100% of the tuition fees for businesses with fewer than 50 employees if the employee is aged 16-18 at the start of their apprenticeship. For older apprentices, the Government will subsidise 90% of the tuition fees and your company will pay the remaining 10%. However there are situations where the Government will pay the full cost for older employees.

For Non-Levy paying organisations with over 50 employees, the Government will subsidise 90% of the tuition fees and your company will pay the remaining 10%.

For Levy paying organisations, from 6th April, if your organisation has an annual pay bill of over £3m, it will contribute 0.5% of its total pay bill (less a £15,000 allowance) into an apprenticeship account held by the Government's Digital Apprenticeship Service which will top it up by an additional 10%. The cost of the tuition fees will be paid from your Digital Apprenticeship Service account directly to the University. If your organisation exhausts its Apprenticeship Levy account, it will revert to the 90% subsidised model for non-Levy paying organisations.

At the University of Portsmouth the Degree Apprenticeship programme offers organisations an ideal opportunity to develop the skills and talents of their future workforce.

The University of Portsmouth can arrange meetings with businesses to explain the step-by-step guide to degree apprenticeships and the support available for recruitment and staff development plans.
